The Nobel Prize in Physics 2016 was divided, one half awarded to David J. Thouless (University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA), the other half jointly to F. Duncan M. Haldane (Princeton University, Princeton, NJ, USA) and J. Michael Kosterlitz (Brown University, Providence, RI, USA) "for theoretical discoveries of topological phase transitions and topological phases of matter".

The Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2016 was awarded jointly to Jean-Pierre Sauvage (University of Strasbourg, Strasbourg, France), Sir J. Fraser Stoddart (Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, USA) and Bernard L. Feringa (University of Groningen, Groningen, the Netherlands) "for the design and synthesis of molecular machines".

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2016 was awarded to Yoshinori Ohsumi (Tokyo Institute of Technology, Tokyo, Japan) "for his discoveries of mechanisms for autophagy".

Nobel Prize in Literature 2016

The Nobel Prize in Literature 2016 was awarded to Bob Dylan (American Singer) "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition".
Dylan has recorded a large number of albums revolving around topics such as: the social conditions of man, religion, politics and love. The lyrics have continuously been published in new editions, under the title Lyrics. As an artist, he is strikingly versatile; he has been active as painter, actor and scriptwriter.

Nobel Peace Prize 2016

The Nobel Peace Prize 2016 was awarded to Juan Manuel Santos, President of Colombia "for his resolute efforts to bring the country's more than 50-year-long civil war to an end".

Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences 2016

The Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel 2016 was awarded jointly to Oliver Hart (Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, USA) and Bengt Holmström (Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, MA, USA) "for their contributions to contract theory"
